Religious Traditions or not…
Last week we I began a new series titled Religious Traditions or not… It is my goal that we come to the understanding that all traditions are not to be ignored as well as not all are to be observed.
Let me illustrate it to you this way, several years ago an evangelist came to my home church to preach a revival and on his first night he carried his hymnal to the pulpit. He held up his hymnal and waved it to the crowd and said: “this is my hymnal and if they would take my Bible away I could live off of this alone”. After that statement he continued to preach about traditions and he never once opened his Bible but he often referred to his hymnal.
Where have we gone wrong? What have we missed? I mean really… those are the traditions that most often times take precedence in the church. I am not saying traditions are bad. But I am saying the traditions of man must not take priority over the commands of God. Hymnal versus Bible? We have lost it somewhere…
Jesus said,
Mark 7:1-8 NIV 1 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus and 2 saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were “unclean,” that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.) 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with ‘unclean’ hands?” 6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.”
James 1:27 NIV 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Those traditions of the church that are commands of God must be observed but we must never place man’s traditions above God’s commands…

La semana pasada empecé una nueva serie de mensajes titulada Tradiciones Religiosas o no…Mi meta es que entendamos que no todas las tradiciones las debemos de ignorar, así como tampoco todas se deben de observar.
Déjame ilustrarlo de esta manera, hace algunos años un evangelista fue a la Iglesia donde yo crecí a predicar del avivamiento, la primera noche subió con su himnario al pulpito. Tomo su himnario y lo levanto moviéndolo hacia la gente y dijo: “Este es mi himnario, y si me quitan mi biblia, yo podría vivir de esto solamente”. Después de que dijo esto continuo predicando acerca de tradiciones y ni una sola vez abrió la biblia pero continuamente se refirió a su himnario.
¿En donde fue que nos desviamos?, ¿Que fue lo que perdimos? Quiero decir…esas son las tradiciones que comúnmente toman control de la Iglesia. No estoy diciendo que las tradiciones son malas. Lo que estoy diciendo es que las tradiciones de hombre no deben tomar prioridad sobre los mandamientos de Dios. ¿Himnario contra la Biblia? Nos perdimos en algún momento…
Jesús dijo,
Marcos 7:1-8 NVI 1 Los *fariseos y algunos de los *maestros de la ley que habían llegado de Jerusalén se reunieron alrededor de Jesús,2 y vieron a algunos de sus discípulos que comían con manos *impuras, es decir, sin habérselas lavado.3 (En efecto, los fariseos y los demás judíos no comen nada sin primero cumplir con el rito de lavarse las manos, ya que están aferrados a la tradición de los *ancianos.4 Al regresar del mercado, no comen nada antes de lavarse. Y siguen otras muchas tradiciones, tales como el rito de lavar copas, jarras y bandejas de cobre.)5 Así que los fariseos y los maestros de la ley le preguntaron a Jesús:—¿Por qué no siguen tus discípulos la tradición de los ancianos, en vez de comer con manos impuras?6 Él les contestó:—Tenía razón Isaías cuando profetizó acerca de ustedes, *hipócritas, según está escrito:»”Este pueblo me honra con los labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí.7 En vano me adoran; sus enseñanzas no son más que reglas *humanas.” 8 Ustedes han desechado los mandamientos divinos y se aferran a las tradiciones humanas.
Santiago 1:27 NVI 27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante de Dios nuestro Padre es ésta: atender a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y conservarse limpio de la corrupción del mundo.
